VARIETAS DELECTAT

VARIETAS DELECTAT is Latin for 'pleasure in variety'. Above is the poster I made for the exhibition. Benedetta and I arrived a few days early to install and the gallery installed us in a convent. We did not know the gallerists before arriving in Graz but they certainly had our number! Peace, quiet and cleanliness.

ARON QUARTETT: SCHLOSS LAUDON FESTIVAL 2010

aron quartett
Ludwig Müller, Violine - Barna Kobori, Violine - Georg Hamann, Viola -
Christophe Pantillon, Violoncello

This was my second summer attending the Schloss Laudon Chamber Music Festival in a stunning moated castle featuring the Aron Quartett. The performance included works by the 90 year old Walter Arlen who was in attendance. The Arons have a strong interpretive sound for the modern repertoire and to hear them play Korngold is always a gift as it was this day. The perfect thing to do on an August afternoon.

LONDON SHINES

The black and white images are by James, he and Rachel joined us for the Lucas-West extravaganza and afterword went whole hog at a restaurant called...Whole Hog? Later I had a Mint Julep at Brown's with friends and can say London has officially redeemed itself.

A TALK: SARAH LUCAS, ANDREAS REITER RAABE and FRANZ WEST

This was a crazy free for all loosely described as a "talk."
Artists Sarah LucasAndreas Reiter Raabe and Franz West bantered and probed with musical interventions by Phillip Quehenberger. Franz kept trying to have a dialogue with the music. Sort of like the Peanuts characters who can actually speak words and adults who only exists in sounds. Phillip played along, Lucas went out to the loo, Andreas attempted to reel the whole thing in and the audience either got it or not. One young man asked for his money back during the question/answer period because he hadn't learned anything. Eventually he was won over by the trio, the kid did't stand a chance. The performance took place at the Royal Academy the same room where cadavers were dissected.
